Wed 19th Nov 2008Get back on the board
Come on lads and lasses get typing some news on this board!¬ - SoreenEater

Fri 10th Oct 2008British Fell Relay Championships
Looking forward to this on Sunday 19th. Ian C and me went recceing last Wednesday, what a lovely area of the country especially on such a wonderful day. Will have a look if there are any Youth Hostels in the area for a PFR weekend jaunt. - Mouth Almighty

Fri 12th Sep 2008Runners Beware!!!!
At the risk of scaremongering, a man has been known to be chasing female runners in the Stocksbridge/ Deepcar area and on the trail around Silkstone Common. I have received this report 3rd hand so can't be certain of exact locations but the Police are taking it seriously and are increasing patrols this weekend. Please let people know, just in case and I will update the message board if I hear anything else. Cheers. - Housewife

Best get the bakery to stock up on donuts then.- KingSnail, 2008-10-06

I feel like saying "It would be good for training though" but such a comment would be in extremely bad taste. Lets hope the Old Bill clear the local byways of all nutters....including horse worriers!!!- Scab, 2008-09-23

Only if you wear your camouflage jacket to run in Steve.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-09-16

So, if I run home from work next week on the trail to the Travellers Pub at the crossroads, I'm likely to be stopped by the police. What a world we live in. I can't walk in the park by myself, I can't go for a walk without having a dog because it looks suspicious. Now, because of some !!!!!!! I might feel uneasy about going solo running. AND even worse than that, a woman can't feel safe going out for a run by herself. Crap isn't it?- SoreenEater, 2008-09-13

Wed 1st Oct 2008Praying for Rain on Saturday
Hopefully Saturday's weather will be worse than Sunday's, then I can get a pass to go and do the Grin and Bear It. The Bog Monster doesn't scare me, not as much as 'er indoors! www.iammyownboss.com - SoreenEater

Tue 23rd Sep 2008Handicap Time to Beat
Big Al and Soreeneater ran the course on Tuesday to check that it was dry and no obstructions. I'd forgotten how tough it was. Big Al went round in 30:44 according to his fake Rolex knocking nearly 90 secs off his best time. Be glad he's not running! The handicap I'd given him would have meant a 45:44 finish (aiming for 45 dead) My time was 31:07, just 8 secs under my PB for last year, and with the handicap I'd given myself, this meant a 45:07 finish. Not a bad guess! See you on Thursday. - SoreenEater

I am really grateful to all concerned. Glad I thought of the number over the line thing. Saves on pins and numbers on chests and forgetting them next time. PLEASE feel free to say if you think we made a mistake anywhere. Doing the sums the first time ain't easy. Race 2 may even see us doing self-registration. It won't be painful, honest. It will cut down on the number of helpers and let more people take part.- SoreenEater, 2008-09-26

Great 1st H'cap Steve. I thought the system worked well esp. on crossing the line knowing exactly what position you finished in. PB I think for me and obviously down to Ian Charley's rocket shoes rather than the operator. The 1st occasion in which speedy gonzales Shaun Dim. didn't overtake me - 1 for the diary me thinks. Elsewhere notably Julie B managed to navigate herself round in such a time that her eyelashes were not allowed to freeze up! Alan King (middle name initial "F"),nee Knox, tried to trip me up on the final descent and I would like to call a stewards enquiry. Well done again Frithy and thanks to the helpers....in partic footwear free Ian C.- Scab, 2008-09-26

Wed 24th Sep 2008Harewood 10 mile
Hi all,if anyone needs a lift to the Harewood 10 on 5th Oct we have 4 free seats. I reckon we will be leaving Penistone at around 8.30. Will be at Handicap race tomorrow if you want ask me. - lakesidelady

I was also going to offer, but since you kindly ask, I'll have one. One problem, I'm not sure who you are Lakeside. I don't get up to the club v. often these days, but need to go up on Tues, although not running. If you're there let me know. You'll spot me, I'll be the one in non-running gear.- muddysox, 2008-09-26

Thu 18th Sep 2008Winter Handicap
Really looking forward to next Thursday's handicap. Can't wait for the reaction of the competitors.Hmmmmmmmmmmm. www.shouldhavekeptmyhanddown.com - SoreenEater

Sat 13th Sep 2008Okay, so Alex Simon beat me!
You have a month off running, work late at school etc etc moan moan and what happens. At the Penistone 10k there were cries of, "He's beaten you again!" Some encouragement that is! I'm 16 years older! It's only the second time as well. Mind you, the way he's running, I don't think I will beat him again. Might join a club that doesn't throw their members on the scrapheap after one season. Well done Alex ( that took a lot of effort to type) Thanks to all the people involved in the race. Cheers. - SoreenEater

I had a good day. I put it all down to my personal trainer and those funny blue tablets he forces on me at £20 a throw. You came first V55. What more do you want! You can get your own back on the next half marathon. We need to hit the road and get some miles in.- BigAl, 2008-09-14

Sat 13th Sep 2008Winter Handicap - web page
Could someone please try the link and let me know if it looks okay. I'm building the site on a wide screen jobby and I'm not sure if it makes a difference to a smaller screen thingy. NO, I'm NOT bragging. www.silkstoneprimary.co.uk/WinterHandica_MMtmp7895626f/WinterHandicap.html - SoreenEater

Don't bother, I've made a mistake on these. Will try again.- SoreenEater, 2008-09-14

Sorry, try this link instead. I've started the dates page, home page and handicap formatt page so far.www.silkstoneprimary.co.uk/winter%20handicap/HomePage.html- SoreenEater, 2008-09-13

Fri 12th Sep 2008Winter Handicap - help needed PLEASE
The winter handicap will soon be upon us and I need a team of four to be a timekeeper and a number sorter outer at the end. I am quite happy if people offer to do one or two stints at this BUT if I can't get a team together........... - SoreenEater

a timekeeper OR a number sorter outer- SoreenEater, 2008-09-12

Sat 6th Sep 2008Missing Persons
Has anyone seen or heard of these persons? Known as members of the ex-Harriers gang they have gone into hiding and are wanted for various misdemeaners. Shaun Walker, sometimes goes by the name of 'scab' or 'biscuit'. Has adopted ginger tendancies of ripping the p**S out of people. Mark Pearce has gone under the name of 'Kingsnail'. Has a tendancy to fall over on uneven ground. Steve Frith has beating Alan Knox tendancies. If seen contact Newcasal please do not approach, these three can by extremely unpredictable. - Newcasal

Wot? Did someone mention my name?- KingSnail, 2008-09-10

Great to hear from you Steve but what has happened to the message board monster - Scab? Has he got writer's cramp? Has he been finally silenced? Are you out there somewhere Biscuit? Will you be coming to the Trunce in disguise? How about you Mark? Will you be at the Trunce once again dressed as a female?- Newcasal, 2008-09-07

I'm lurking in the background Newcasl. Back off hols and running really crappily. Scared to come out!- SoreenEater, 2008-09-06

Mon 8th Sep 2008Cross Keys Relay
The results are on t'internet. 31st out of 46 teams. Check my maths but the splits were Keith (road) 23:48, Andy (Fell) 28:58, Dave (road) 24:06 and Nick (Fell) 27:02. Total 1:43:54. A very fine race, worth doing again and the beer was excellent. http://saddleworth-runners.co.uk/crosskeysresults - Overthehill

Sat 23rd Aug 2008Moorland run tomorrow (24/08/08)
I will be at Wessenden Head, where Tanky's crosses, tomorrow morning at 08:30 with a view to doing a couple of hours up to soldiers lump across to snoopys old lay bye, following the high level Pennine Way across Saddleworth dropping into Wessenden Valley and back to the car. If any one wants to come with me, we can either meet at Penistone show ground car park at 08:00 or Wessenden Head at 08:30 or ring me on 07815 646262 - Mouth Almighty

A grand 2 hours out. Very wet underfoot but only rained for a few minutes towards the end. Got back to van to witness the Red Arrows fly over at about 100 feet above the road heading for London. Finished with a cup of tea at Snoopy's.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-08-25

Mon 25th Aug 2008Duathlon
Thanks to Bob and all the helpers for running the events. A good turn out on Thursday. Phil H hit the gas pedal and set off into the sunset to record another fast time. Same again next year Bob. - BigAl

Thu 19th Jun 2008Duathlon - wot-a-race
Thanks Bob and gang for a pleasant evening. Even the rain decided to go away in the end. Mi legs were like jelly after the bike ride. Must get a better bike off ebay. I couldn't hardly run fo first 400m. I take mi hat off to these triathletes. What about Trunce Dunford Bridge and Back then Trunce? OR Mickleden Straddle Glossop Mickleden Straddle? - SoreenEater

Tis the 1 problem I have with Tri events - they are run for profit. You do however normally get quite a lot for your dosh with this partic company. I did the Tri-Relays in Nott'm this w/e which they organise and given the chaos of the competition they do a blinding job. Ran the run leg in my PFR vest you will be pleased to hear!!- Scab, 2008-08-04

I have been bitten by the duathlon bug and have entered this. 'Kin expensive though!!www.onestepbeyond.org.uk/robinhood-challenge.php- Mudskipper, 2008-07-31

Is there a chance we could have the run route as a PDF document or a scanned thing that we can download from the club sit?- Mudskipper, 2008-07-27

LOL on the keys thing. My poor car was suffering on the way back it's never been thrashed like that before. The brakes were cooked when I pulled back into the carpark :) The ankle appears to be OK this morning. I may try and get out for a jog round Rotherham at lunch time to really check it out.- Mudskipper, 2008-07-25

Did wonder why you drove off at great speed, thought it was something we said. Was quite a key evening then, I had to go back home for the gate key. How is the injury this morning?- Mouth Almighty, 2008-07-25

Brilliant evening. Very enjoyable. Can't wait for the next one when I will hopefully arrive with the right set of keys so I have access to all my kit from the roof box and then I don't miss the start :S- Mudskipper, 2008-07-25

I shall hopefully be there tonight (dependant on the mudlets) to give this a go!! Looks fun :)- Mudskipper, 2008-07-24

This link on the new diary says TPT although it did say WWoods at one time.www.pfrac.co.uk/_private/BobsDuathalon.doc- SoreenEater, 2008-07-06

What are the distances of the next one and is it going to be round Wharncliffe Woods or on the TPT?- Mudskipper, 2008-07-06

3 secs in front of you Big Al on the bike. No transition for me though. One shoe does all.- SoreenEater, 2008-06-20

Enjoyed the duathlon tonight. Thanks to Bob and all the organisers. A good course and just the right distance for a first go. How about Strines and back following Penistone 10k?- BigAl, 2008-06-19

Thu 31st Jul 2008Should it be PFR & Tri Club?
Duathlons, bike rides - all these extra curricula (sp?) push-bike activities surely require an amendment to the club constitution? On t'same theme just thought I'd put another note on here of the efforts of rarely seen by you but often seen by me, fellow club member Lorraine Gandy. 1st Lady no less in last Sunday's Glossop Triathlon. A long sprint distance tri with a beast of a bike route involving up and over Snake Pass. She got round in 1hr 44mins. We decided to hang around for the prize giving as we thought she might have a shout for an age category prize. Anyway, 3rd and 2nd Ladies step forward for the overall prizes (skinny waifes in their mid-20's)and then 1st Lady 'er indoors. What a shock - because everyone is set off in waves you never know where you are in the race until the results come out. She has been floating on a cloud ever since. - Scab

Congratulations Mrs. Scab. Great effort.- Mudskipper, 2008-07-31

Good effort Mrs.Scab- Mouth Almighty, 2008-07-31

Thu 31st Jul 2008Race tonight
Anyone joining me & Phil Hinch to romp with a Reindeer tonight? - Scab

I believe there are a few PFR romping tonight. I will be at the club if anyone isn't.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-07-31

Thu 24th Jul 2008Duathlon - Short Coursed it AGAIN!
I only short-coursed to make sure that Phil and Rick would be DQ'd and for no other reason. I might manage the bottom end of the field for the final one. Tricky in parts on the TPT bike section. Why oh why do people use the trail for recreation when there is a race on? A t least it was only dogs this time and not horses. Pleased with my short course run. Only 20 secs difference between them. Legs like jelly after the biking. Thanks to Bob and other helpers. Hopefully the results will be out before nine tonight. Course should have been marked better though AND refreshments at transition AND a massage at the end. Ah well. Hopefully more of this next year Bob? - SoreenEater

11:00am - No results yet?- SoreenEater, 2008-07-25

Thu 24th Jul 2008Reindeer Romp
Jeff the Romp is next Thursday not this Thursday as you said at the club on Tuesday! Was this a ploy to ensure a good place in the race? - Newcasal

Tue 22nd Jul 2008Winter Handicap - Same dates but a different day
The Winter Handicap WILL start at the Leisure Centre. The dates are exactly the same as last year BUT on Thursday. Leap Year etc has meant that all 9 dates are exactly the same as before. First one is on Thursday 25th September. AND it will be one pound for all 9 races. Cheers. www.can'tmakehisbl***dymindup.org - SoreenEater

Mon 21st Jul 200817 Guests on Line
Why on earth are 17 people on this website and ME of course. What have you been promising people Mouth Almighty? - SoreenEater

Tue 15th Jul 2008Penistone Virgin

Mon 14th Jul 2008Forty Squid Richer!
Sal wouldn't believe me when I told her I was entering the 3 in 3 to win £40. Andy thought I was joking when I told him to look after the £40 for me cos I had to nip home quick for me dinner. Oh ye of little faith. Somebody up there was looking out for me. Thanks mum, thanks dad! - SoreenEater

This 20 year old malt tastes ...................- SoreenEater, 2008-07-15

Money given to wife with bad back. Seeing her fizzy - o tonite.- SoreenEater, 2008-07-15

Evidence again that there is no justice in this world. Soreen Clagged Dentures bags the winnings after slagging off the efforts of our great leader. Quote: "Pound Shop Nail Scratched Glasses". Lets hope he chokes on his lead crystal ware winnings!!- Scab, 2008-07-15

Great piccies. Shame Julie B got in the way of that good looking and athletic ginger bloke in the opening start shots though.- Scab, 2008-07-15

Mon 14th Jul 2008Success Abroad
Phil Hinchliffe chose to wimp out on the 3in3 challenge this w/e and instead competed in the far more modest event of the Swiss Ironman. He got round in a truly awesome time of 10hrs 25mins of which his marathon time was an incredible 3hrs 30mins. Makes me feel tired just typing it out. Well done Phil and looking forward to seeing your Ironman Tat2 on yer ar(m/se)!! - Scab

Thu 10th Jul 2008Winter Handicap - SORTED!
New venue for the Winter Handicap is sorted - Thurlstone Primary School. £15 an hour - so a minimum of 30 will easily cover this. As it is on the route - what a star I am! The run will take you up to Royd Moor - keep on the same route all the way to the Leisure Centre (watch for the odd car!), up towards Grammar School, turn left on Old Anna Lane and back to the school. 5 miles give or take an inch. Might run it anti-clockwise alternate races with a relay as an extra - race at the end. - SoreenEater

all sounds good to me but I am not sure that I will be able to change my Winter clock to a Thursday. I'll try.- BeefGravy, 2008-07-13

Wash my hair on Thursdays during winter months, or bath the ferret. Sounds a wicked finish, can we cut the corner over the school playing fields. Hope we don't get to many people to get in my way and slow me down and results need to be out within 1/2 hour.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-07-10

Oh, I forgot to add that it will be on a THURSDAY!!!!!! This gives the people who run the Junior Section a chance to join in. I can hear all the moans and groans already. I'll expect just half a dozen people then?- SoreenEater, 2008-07-10

Sun 13th Jul 2008Thurlstone Chase
Results are on the race reports page - SoreenEater

Mon 7th Jul 20083 IN 3 - 12th, 13th and 14th July.
Who's up for this? Thurlstone Chase, Broomhead and Trunce. 3in3 Tot glass to all and chance to win £40. All people completing the 3 races will have their name put into a hat and 1 name drawn out to win the £40. - Mouth Almighty

good job gazzas away this weekend, serious head on this year so no silly hats for broomhead.- baldeagle, 2008-07-09

Tue 8th Jul 2008PFR Pin-Up in Dirty Mag Shocker
Well, dirty as in mucky feet anyway. Those who proudly own the summer edition of the FRA mag will see a splendid piccie of Dame Kilpin in the results section. So the secret of his success on t'fells appears to be his Birdie Song impersonation whilst running!! - Scab

Thu 3rd Jul 2008Guess The Time IT Would Take You Race (Assuming you stay on the right path)
Cheers Brent. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Pity I could do the Math! (USA) Wanted to do 8 min pace but couldn't work it out in my head. Pace calc on computer he say 27mins 20secs which was closer to my actual time than the one I said. Brilliant event. Worth doing again. Shame about the T shirt though. - SoreenEater

Results were done on the day, passed to organiser by 08:00 next day who updated and forwarded to PFR web master mid morning. May go into buseness doing results, wot a service. Best learn to type a bit faster first, oh, and understand excel a bit better, and web sites - may be not a good idea to go into buseness (:- Mouth Almighty, 2008-07-07

That was faster than I expected. Wot a star!- SoreenEater, 2008-07-04

No results yet MouthAlmighty? Come on, the event was nearly 24 hours ago. Tut Tut!- SoreenEater, 2008-07-04

Na then Baldeagle, non o this silly "I don't want any money back for ought". PFR have money to pay for such things. Let me know aah much tha's at o pocket an we'll cover it. Event went very well, Baldeagle family were stars, during the race and the presentation, well done young (not so) Bald eagles.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-07-04

Well done brent on doing this in my absence, hope everything went okay and the family were of help to you also thanks to anyone who gave brent a hand from what i can gather from the kids was good enjoyable night.- baldeagle, 2008-07-04

Sat 5th Jul 2008Hi everyone!
Have you missed me? I'm injured. Hope to be back soon. - Newcasal

Someone has answered! I feel loved now. The injury was after the Hunshelf Steve. I think it might be damaged tendons around the knee. Seems to be gradually improving.- Newcasal, 2008-07-07

Too much marking? What's up? It's just our age kid. Nothing too serious I hope.- SoreenEater, 2008-07-05

Mon 9th Jun 2008Dam Flask Relays
Anyone up for a V50 team? You know you want to..... - SoreenEater

Well done to all. Slippery - we've got your medal at ours. Thanks to Julie and Katy for letting me 'run' in the team. Even though I wasn't as fast as the runners around me, it was good to be upfront. I don't usually get anywhere near any of them. Looking at the results, if we'd been a Vets team I reckon we'd have been first.- muddysox, 2008-06-27

Phew that was tougher than expected, due to short notice and having cycled to and from work earlier in the day...whinge whinge. however pleased with the results and a great event with some real quality in all age/gender groups- SlipperyStones, 2008-06-26

Can't do the relay after all! I'd forgotten all about the school play which is on Tuesday and Wednesday. Sorry.- SoreenEater, 2008-06-16

Anyone?- SoreenEater, 2008-06-10

Fri 27th Jun 2008LONG RUN - this Saturday

Looks like an early trip round Asda- SoreenEater, 2008-06-27

Mon 23rd Jun 2008Trunce 5 - Apologise
Please may I aplogise to anybody I may have offended at tonights race with my expletives whilst lying on the floor after turning my ankle again. I am sorry. AND thanks to Paul for the offer of a lift back to the finish but I will not get a DNF on the Trunce. - Mudskipper

Thanks Mr P I am hoping that things are better than they look at the minute. Ankle very swollen and wonderful colours but I can walk on it thankfully.Lots of bike milesplanned over the next three weeks then back for the Trunce with lots of strapping!!!!!!!!!!- Mudskipper, 2008-06-26

Your not having a right lot of luck are you Andy. Sorry to hear you hurt yourself again. Has this put you back to square one? Have been promised results should be on web site later this evening. Another good turn out though, 214 seniors and 65 juniors, Wakefield tri club brought 26 juniors with them.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-06-26

Wed 18th Jun 2008Oughtibridge Chase - Parking
What is the best time to be there for? (After the race, ha ha) What about parking? Type of shoe needed? Thanks. - SoreenEater

Found them, as promised they are now on the Gala website. Malt-loafer - you were dreaming, results confirm you were close, but no cigar!- muddysox, 2008-06-23

I'm sure I came in first. Or was that a dream?- SoreenEater, 2008-06-23

No results posted as yet. I was faithfully promised they'd be on the Gala website, so didn't make a note of them. I fear they may end up being lost in the passing of time. If anyone spots the results lurking somewhere, please let me know, or I'll be for it.- muddysox, 2008-06-22

Tarmac pumps would have been spot on. Wearing off road boots must have lost me at LEAST 2mins! (haha)- SoreenEater, 2008-06-19

That should have said Fell Boots as the footwear of choice. :S- Mudskipper, 2008-06-18

I will be there after 7pm got to get the mudlets to bed. I was going to wear tarmac pumps but with all the rain I may plump for the tarmac pumps.- Mudskipper, 2008-06-18

Sat 21st Jun 2008Silkstone Shuffle - shorter course?
What happened today? There seemed to be quite a few faster times around. Well done to Julie and Barbara and Martyn and Shaun for gaining prizes. Look as though I am going to have a tussle with a v50 Hallamshire for overall times. I thought I'd run slower than last time. After 2 tough races and a duathlon this week, I felt Jacobs. Got home and I have beaten my PB by 34 seconds! Blood and sand! Must keep racing 4 times a week!!!!! Going to the Reindeer Romp next week. Anyone want a lift? - SoreenEater

www.barnsleyharriers.org.uk/?- SoreenEater, 2008-06-21

Wed 11th Jun 2008Hunshelf Amble - 15th June @ 11:00 hrs
Dave Horsfall was at the club yesterday suggesting this years race is make or break. If not many people run it will be the last Amble. If you like the race and find yourself free on Sunday turn up and support the locals. 7.5miles (ish) 1300 ft (approx) around Hunshelf Parish Boundary - Mouth Almighty

Sorry Scab. Promise I won't let it happen again.- SoreenEater, 2008-06-16

Should not results go on the Race Reports page Mr Raisin Stained Teeth? Thanks again to the organisers and I really hope that this local classic doesn't disappear from the calendar. 62 isn't a bad turnout partic. given that Kinder Trog was on the same day. I loved the Penistone Hill race and it was a shame to see that slip off the radar. Being a bone idle bod I am entirely dependent on others who take time out to organise these events. Rocket Ron Fawcett who hadn't done this before (having done most UK races) really sang the Amble's praises yes'day. A welcome breeze on the long drag cooled things down a bit. For me this race was just a warm up for the afternoons main event - 1st place in the Fathers Day Wheelbarrow race at Silkstone Church Garden Party. I think that I have finally found my true sporting vocation.- Scab, 2008-06-16

Thu 5th Jun 2008BARNSLEY BOUNDARY - IMPORTANT NOTICE
Been in contact with a lady from Endurance GB - all do do with horses. Big event based at Wortley - Finkle St on Sat and Sunday. There may be NO NO NO NO NO parking at Finkle St. Could be full of Land Rovers and horse boxes. Might be wrong, BUT be aware when you make arrangements with people car sharing or picking you up. Fit people like me will of course be sprinting home after the measley (spots?) 11.2 miles or so. - SoreenEater

What a team (PFR in total). Just look at the picture on the bandstand steps. Add the same number that were behind the camera, and that is what makes PFR successful. Everybody celebrating together. I put it down to the club leadership.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-06-11

A tad unfair Malt Loafer. Boyz had footie training in am and I didn't want to impinge on t'other club members too much what with the kid watching duties had i taken a long leg. Rechecked the results at the address below, and I'm not sure what's incorrect. Do you mean the race results are wrong? Our champs results have been copied in the same order as far I can see. It was Lad's Leap you have concerns over wasn't it? The pair of you were missed at Hayfield, which is a bit of a co-incidence. That was some race. At 9:10 this morning and just time to fetch the veggies from Hoylandswaine. Mr. S Dimelow stands before me at the door. YES! He's decided to swell the ranks at the race. Good idea, especially as he was the winner. JUST! Slightly raining, a LOT. Soaked before the start. Brilliant cross-country put on by Wakefield. Definitely worth doing. Darren was 18th, Ian C 31st, me 35th and Keith, Geoff, Dave and Sue just a few places back. Results not in yet but I thinks we scored 719pts for the first 4 home. BRILLIANT. Fri 30th May 2008Boundary Recci (wrecky looks better)
Being a part-time worker (teaching), I caught the 29 from Shrewsbury Rd. Destination: Howbrook. Mission: to recci the Boundary leg I have so unfairly been given. I did say that I'd do any leg. What I meant was, any leg which doesn't involve getting my little legs nettled to death! Hoping to keep up with a few people from Tankersley to the crossing the road of death, I thought that starting at Howbrook was the best thing to do. Plus; it's on the bus route. No messing about with those car things. The field off Berry Lane is HORRIBLE! Thick wet grass AND the farmer has a crop just surfacing where the footpath is supposed to go. Most people will take a short cut straight across no doubt. Why don't they leave footpaths free? More wet fields and more wet field. A change of shoes and socks would be a good idea before the woods. Woods route finding is fairly easy, at my speed anyway. Tricky at the very top, much longer run in along the top of the crags. Seemed to go on for ages and ages. BIG HORSE EVENT on the same day as the run. Expect lots of 4 legged friends when you get to the bottom. Car parking may be at a premium. Ran back to Penistone along the trail. Spooky tunnel at Oxspring. - SoreenEater

Just thought I'd post some praise about the 2 wheeled antics of 'er outdoors and your fellow club member, Lorraine Gandy, who completed the "Daddy of all long distance road races" in the Lakes last w/e. She completed the round trip of the Lakes out of Coniston taking in every monster pass-Kirkstone, Matterdale End, Honister,Newlands, Whinlatter, Cold Fell, Irton Pike and with 100mile in the legs the double whammy of the 33% gradient offered up by Hardknott and Wrynose. With 1000 entries she did the 112 miles and many thousands of metres of ascent in 9hrs and 17 mins with 8hrs 45mins actually in the saddle, finishing 637 on a scorching hot day. A fantastic achievement. Incidentally, 2 of the top 3 were fell runners including Rob Jebb who smashed the previous record and must have upset some serious roadies. 1st lady back, Angela Mudge, is also of the muddy stuff. - Scab

Awesome stuff Lorraine, WELL DONE!! I struggle up the Hardknott / Wrynose in my camper.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-05-13

Sun 4th May 2008Coniston Fell Race
Just got back from a fab weekend in Coniston, taking in Coniston fell race. Having completed this last year in just outside 3 hours (I know, how long can it take to run 9 miles?) I was filled with trepidation at the prospect of doing it again! Having reccied the route last week in nearly 4 hours in low cloud and hail and getting lost I didn't hold hold out much hope of breaking 3 hours this year!! Anyway, woke up Sat am to blue skies and off I went. I can't believe how much I enjoyed it - yes enjoyed it! It felt like the 9 miles it was rather than the 19 miles it had felt last week. I returned to base in 2 hours 5 mins, aching but delighted. Would recommend this race, particularly as there is a field available for camping through the bank holiday making it a really sociable event. Maybe we could get a couple of teams together next year? - Housewife

I hour off yer P.B.!! Fantastic stuff - surely the headline for next weeks Chron?- Scab, 2008-05-06

Sat 26th Apr 20081st Trog May 1st Polling Day
Change of plan! I am going to do an orienteering type course around Langsett instead of the Polling Station thing. We need to get on the moors. The start will be at the car park near the Flouch roundabout, not Langsett Barn. Start times from 6:30 - 6:45ish. Make sure you are geared up for the weather. Pint at The Huntsman afterwards. - SoreenEater

Many thanks for organising this event. I really enjoyed it. There is obviously a lot of organisation involved and this is much appreciated.- Newcasal, 2008-05-04

Really sorry about the itchy bits. I shouldn't have put that one there. I WANTED to wear a skirt today, BUT I thought I'd better not!- SoreenEater, 2008-05-02

Really enjoyed it, despite control 6 being a bit 'iffy. Wish I'd put longs on as well, I've had to wear a skirt today and my legs look wrecked! Thanks for all your hard work.- muddysox, 2008-05-02

Top class effort there Soreeneater. Agree with scab re long trousers next time. Pain dulled as the Titanic went down. (knew I shouldn't have had ice with it). Next Trog is 5th June which will be a run around a different area, yet to be decided.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-05-02

Great little course Steve, mental note to wear leggings and to bring a compass next time. Good craich in the boozer afterwards. It obviously took a lot of organising so Ta very much and when is the next 1?? Col & I especially enjoyed oberving John, Geoff & Stuart overshooting control 1 on the final run in as we had all been tussling on the way round.- Scab, 2008-05-02

Top Trogging. Really enjoyed it.- KingSnail, 2008-05-02

As long as they are out of site they are out of mind. Can't see it being a problem. Got a bo*****ing from game keeper about 10 years ago for a small orienteering do but think it was mainly because someone had a dog running lose, even though the dog was scared of sheep.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-05-01

I've got some controls to put out and there are a couple which are a BIT away from the rest. Not too far. I'm going to try and get up there as soon as I can escape from school. Alex has offered to start people off for me if I am not back in time for the off. Do you think the controls will be ok until Friday afternoon? Will I get in bother leaving them out? They are out of the way of people and won't cause any damage. Pick up the stragglers! I don't want to have done the course and nobody turn up. Cheers.- , 2008-05-01

Mon 14th Apr 2008New Scab on Mrs Scab
Back in touch after a few weeks of problems getting on this site. Just wanted to put a note on to sing the praises of my 'er outdoors and fellow club member, Lorraine Gandy, who yesterday completed the gruelling Lakeland Loop Cyclosportive (3500m climbing in 70 miles) in 6hrs 30 mins in the saddle. It involved grinding up Whinlatter/Hardknott/Wrynose in a circular route from Langdale. Not bad given she turns 40 tommorrow...oops promised not to mention that bit!! Just the little matter of the toughest UK bike ride to do next month in the form of the Fred Witton Sportive. The scab by the way formed after she fell off her chariot whilst trying to re-mount after a walking session up Hardknott. As Nick Cable pointed out "she will of course be sat down most of the time, so what can be difficult about it -all you get is a spotty a*se from cycling". - Scab

Mon 14th Apr 2008Polling Station Trog -1st May
Two possible options for this: Starting point will be the Rose and Crown at Hoylandswaine. The ideas is to visit as many local polling stations as possible BUT only to use footpaths wherever possible. EVEN if it means travelling twice as far. The two possibilities are 1: set routes from each station to the other; OR people to do their own routes just as long as they enter into the spirit of things and use footpaths as much as possible. Comments please. Each group to have a digital camera to prove they have visited each station. Picture of runners next to Polling Station sign. Comments (sensible ones) one be appreciated. - SoreenEater

Like some other club members (me included) he runs for Denby Dale on road etc, but runs for dark peak as a second claim ? on the fells. think he may be considering resigning denby dale ? but who, apart from jim knows ?- SlipperyStones, 2008-03-22

Fri 21st Mar 2008Next Championship Race
Is the next championship race; Herod Farm or Hayfield? - SoreenEater

Hiss BOO! (sorry)- SoreenEater, 2008-03-22

It's in the process of being changed to Hayfield, in recognition that a few club members wanted to participate in the S.Yorks Road League and also the club champs (Herod Farm clashed with the first SYRRL). Therefore, we decided to acknowledge this and make it an easier choice. Still waiting to confirm the replacement fell race, so haven't publicised it yet, although the more 'eagle eyed' amongst you may have seen the changes on the champs sheet already. You can take the Herod Farm/Hayfield swap as a done deal, but the other changes are subject to Big Geoff's approval.- muddysox, 2008-03-21

Not trying hard enough if you can clearly jump a fence. Honest baddies at Penistone, last evening 2 admitted to climbing fence, their turn to buy beer tonight at the presentation.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-03-19

What's the position if you actually jump the fence/gate without making contact with it?- KingSnail, 2008-03-19

Oh dear, just read the FRA entries. Our name is sinking into the mud. I guess we're easy to spot, so if you do fence hop remember 'our' name is on your back! I didn't notice any of our club doing it, but then I wasn't really looking, too busy queuing. When I first started fell running it was tempting to follow what you think is the fastest route, but I soon realised it's not fair to everyone else in front and they usually passed me again anyway. So what's the point? It's cheating and isn't fair to the landowners. Come on, we're better than that.- muddysox, 2008-03-17

RichK on Fell Runners forum suggesting Penistone runners were as guilty as anyone for climbing fences / not waiting at stiles. We are all concenting adults and have our freedom to do as we wish but, climbing fences will limit future freedom. DO NOT DO IT. What did you save? 30 seconds at best, run a bit faster to get there before others or enjoy the rest and banter talking about the prats that do climb fences.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-03-17

Bu**er, I slipped. Only 4 pints though, but a good night non the less. See you 9:45 at the show ground car park.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-03-16

Ah, but then their conspiracy has worked. Be strong and resist the temptation. Before you know it you will be on the slippery slope. One pint will inevitably lead to 5 and then bingo-you are front of the queue in the kebab shop. Then you will have to lug all that ale and greasy lamb over 6 miles and 1700ft the following morning.- BigAl, 2008-03-15

Dark Peak are meeting up at Langsett and then car sharing from there. A good idea? Keeps cars down to a minimum (says he who cadges lifts cos he ain't got a car!)- SoreenEater, 2008-03-15

I am taking Soreeneater tomorrow if you want a lift Mouth Almighty. I will be returning home pretty sharpish after the race. Let me know if you want picking up.- BigAl, 2008-03-15

Be patiemt soreeneater, seems I was answering, to the best of my ability, whilst you were bol****ing me. Not very quick at typing.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-03-15

Come on Mouth Almighty - you are on line answer the question!- SoreenEater, 2008-03-14

Never done it, but, Climbs from Crowden west up to Lads Leap and continues on the edge heading towards Tintwistle. Path descends to fence on lower edge and then drops further (somewhere) towards road. Doubles back heading east through some quarries and climbs back up to Lads Leap and then descends to Crowden and finish. Out and back to / from Lads leap is the same but the loop is reversed some times. Not sure which way it goes this year. Do you need a lift there?- Mouth Almighty, 2008-03-14

Wed 5th Mar 2008High Peak Marathon
All the best to the Penistone members who are taking on this challenge at the weekend. Don't look at the weather forecast though. I'll set my alarm for 4am and pop up to see you at Cut Gate. Any food or drink orders? Bacon Butty for example. - SoreenEater

A quick note to say that PFR scratch team #1 aka 3 blind mice and a farmers wife were 1st mixed team back in a time of 10 hours 55 minutes. Thanks to Neil (Bowland FR) and Rob (Mercia FR) who stepped in at the last minute when the Curse of the Watershed fell upon Nick Cable, Martyn Goodwin and Charlie. Nicky and me are sharing the worlds ugliest trophy- will bring it down to club tomorrow so you can see what I mean. Well chuffed especially because I also had a ticket to watch Barnsley spank Chelsea. Saturday was one of those rare days..........- 23hours59minutes, 2008-03-10

Most definitely not in a team, phew!!!! Wil be at the Snake in pull ins at 07:00hrs Saturday morning (tomorrow). If anyone wishes to join me either be there before 07:00 or ring me tonight and cadge a lift. mob 07815 646262- Mouth Almighty, 2008-03-07

May need to be up a bit earlier depending on who is in the teams. If I end up running, not looking likely thank goodness, you could have another hour in bed. 2006, (Nicky, Ian, John and me) we were at Cut Gate at 05:30hrs. This year promises to be faster, without me, so you may miss some. Seriously thinking of running from Snake Inn 07:00 hrs Saturday morning, up Fairbrook across to the Downfall and come back on the route towards Snake Summit. Anyone welcome to come with me if it fits in such busy schedules.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-03-06

Thanks Scab- yes I did enjoy the race. Thanks also to Soreeneater who attempted to pull me up the hills. Is it true that Wembley is building an extention to the ground..... a shed so all the Barnsley lads can park their whippets and greyhounds before they- BigAl, 2008-03-10

Forgiven. As promised you will see that I have put our individual results up on Race Reports in my own style. Go also to Holmfirth 'arriers web-site for lots of piccies of gurning Penistone runners.- Scab, 2008-03-10

Sorry about the error!- SoreenEater, 2008-03-10

i think you will find that there were 6 actually Mr Soreen. He is difficult to miss what with his wafer thin appearance but New Dad Kilpin through tired eyes came in before the lot of us. How do Holmfirth do it - a superb marked course over proper fells with great views, loadsa butties/tea/cake at the finish and a T-shirt - all for just £4!!! Well done to Alex who I think enjoyed his 1st fell outing. Keith obviously isn't used to dressing himself in the a.m. as he turned up at the start with club vest on back to front. Not sure the young lady who caught me streaking saw to much Knoxxy? All in all a tip top outing in perfect weather. I'll put results up on t' Race Reports. Beats thrashing around the Derwent Watershed at some god awful hour....- Scab, 2008-03-10

Shaun W walking past an open door to the outside from the shower, have you seen the ginger nuts strikes again!!!- Newcasal, 2008-03-09

A superb course, and good grub at the finish. A must do for me next year.- Newcasal, 2008-03-09

Results are up, very fastwww.fellrunner.org.uk/results/race08/ianroberts08.txt- SoreenEater, 2008-03-09

Superb course! One of the best runs I've had in ages in terms of views and terrain, something for everyone. The Famous Five turned out: Keith G, Alan K, Steve F, Shaun W and Alex S who was a fell virgin before the race. What a cracker to do for your first one.- SoreenEater, 2008-03-09

I'll be there and will no doubt stray off course again along with 50% of the field like last year. My excuse was that I was only following Ian Charley! Highly recommend this race to all - mixture of a bit of open fell and tracks. Well marked route.....usually!! Newcasal - would you like to collect me on the way? New Dad Kilpin is also likely to come along.- Scab, 2008-03-06

Don't do a Shaun Walker and take the wrong route though!- SoreenEater, 2008-03-05

Hope to see you there Steve.- Newcasal, 2008-03-04

Wed 5th Mar 2008Stretching after warm up.
Who finds the short stretching session a benefit? Much respect to Mark for his knowledge and ability but if I didn't limber up Tuesday night after warm up and before run I wouldn't at all. My problem, I know but I do find it a help. What do you all want to do, Stretch or no Stretch? - Mouth Almighty

Someone mentioned that you'd done a couple of long stretches in the past Al! Is this true?- SoreenEater, 2008-03-05

A steady start to a run for 2 to 5 minutes is a good way of easing your body into exercise. I tend to warm down at the end of a run with a steady jog down to a walk then some stretches to finish. The soft tissue should be warm and therefore more supple before starting to stretch. At least thats what the GCSE PE text books say and all the coaches on the courses I have been on. Things are changing though with an influx of new thinking on the subject. Stretch for me!- Newcasal, 2008-03-05

Sat 1st Mar 2008Back from the Dogs
Fantastic night we had last night and even came away better off (not counting the beer) albeit £3.75. Clawed back on last race by taking Anita's word and shouting louder at the dog. Thanks Jane F for organising it. - Mouth Almighty

Now now- Mouth Almighty, 2008-03-03

What was the name of that last dog? 'Droopys in Front'; hot favourite from Anita, good odds and won by a length. An inspired choice but I can't think where the inspiration cam from?- BeefGravy, 2008-03-01

Sun 2nd Mar 2008Hartcliffe Hill
What a breezy day. Dropped off my wine and donation to sit atop Hartcliffe Hill. Windy or what. A group of people (no idea who they were, spoilt the effect having a number of barking dogs. Thought I recognised one or two of them, but ...... (people, not the dogs). Lack of working batteries and glasses led to me taking only one photo. The leader of course.  Congrats due to Donna & Dame Kilpin who produced Alastair (sp?) Harry Kilpin at 7am yesterday morning. All that pushing must have sent shock waves through the earth's crust! All are well and Ali Harry weighs in at 8lb summat for those that are interested in that sort of thing. It's more tiring with #2 as we know so hopefully this new arrival will have more of an impact on the running performance of the said skinny wretch! - Scab

Well done soreeneater on a fine weekend performance. Following a steady start,he worked his way up to 23:30 pints averages over a distance of five pints. A quick sprint for a double whiskey, downed in brilliant sub 7 minute demolition, ended a punishing session. Is this some kind of club record?- BigAl, 2008-02-25

Next time I will be modelling my new prototype running suit, made entirely of bubble wrap, so Knoxy will be able to hear the popping whenever I take a dive, even if he's too far behind to see it.- KingSnail, 2008-02-25

Glad you all had such a great time. A bit more notice next time please Kingsnail - I wouldn't want to miss out on more of your falling down escapades.- Scab, 2008-02-25

Rotten luck for Julie B in the main event pipped at the post by navigational difficulties. Similar problems were also encountered by Piglet whom I think has done the course a few times previously! Many thanks to Steve M. for the organisation and of course all his helpers. A tough act to follow Soreeneater.- Scab, 2008-02-21

Mentally had a tough time of it what with the ring of "Scab" in me ears from orange vest clad participants on the start line. Matters only made worse when an Old Codger in a PFR vest named Steve Storey glided past me 1/2 way round and tried to strike up a conversation!! Fantastic effort by that Dimelow bloke in 3rd and by Julie B for 2nd lady - she set a race record in her age category. Well run all except those who finished in front of me.... - ShaunWalker

Still up for a pint after the handicap Shaun? I'll look in my wallet to see if I can find the odd 50p!- SoreenEater, 2008-02-18

To Save Confusion I'll add to your note Shaun. Champs results sheet is now updated. Any errors let me know, esp. with categories 'cos I've relied on the 'official' Wombwell results, so if I've got it wrong, then you must have filled the entry form incorrectly. p.s. at least I know who you are Shaun not like the rest of us hiding behind pen names!- muddysox, 2008-02-18

Doh!...I see that there is also a Race Reports section where this should have been posted.- Scab, 2008-02-18

Thanks go to Geoff D for his Hill work session at the club last night. Chapel Lane up to Hartcliffe Hill, a tour round by Langsett Res and then a small climb up the CLOSED Mortimer Rd (BIG HILL). I really enjoy runs that go by my house at the end. - SoreenEater

Sat 16th Feb 2008Edale Skyline - Lift needed to help out
I've offered my services to DPFR to marshal on one of the hills. Anyone going who could offer me a lift? If the weather is good I could marshal Win Hill and then run back. Cheers. Buy you a pint or two or three? - SoreenEater

Tue 5th Feb 2008Mickleden Struggle
Well done to everyone who completed he Mickleden Straddle, especially Steve Roebuck. 4th place, what a star. A big thanks to Shaun Dimelow for asking me to take part in the trail race at Horsforth. We did really well as a team , 4th overall. The next one is at Meltham in March. Loads of team points up for grabs. I'm sure that we could "flood" the field with those Penistone colours. Everyone can earn points in the "every team member to count" table. - SoreenEater

Bald Eagle - type your reply in the top box and any website links in the bottom box. Otherwise your reply tries to be a web link. I THINK.- SoreenEater, 2008-02-11

Wed 6th Feb 2008Sunday Run - 10th February
Anyone doing anything sensible on the moors this Sunday? - SoreenEater

Went out with Shaun D. 15 miles exactly and 2,372 ft climb. My little toes are throbbing due to new trainers. OUCH. Took in a good scenic route from home, hardly any road at all. Time on feet 2hrs 38mins. 10 min miling - not something Shaun does on a regular basis. With a run round the Penistone Boundary yesterday, I have now hit my normal weekly mileage in just 2 days.- SoreenEater, 2008-02-10

Fri 8th Feb 2008Wombwell 5 Entries
Entered late on Wednesday - number back today. Expected it to be 150 or over. Surprised to find I'm number 96! Everyone got their entry in? - SoreenEater
