Good race, similar to last year, warm and longer than I thought! That concludes the fell champs for this year. http://www.fell.runner.btinternet.co.uk/pfrchamps08.htm - muddysox, 2008-09-23

Scores are up for the 14 PFR'ers who braved the scorching slopes of Mount Lantern Pike. Lots of distractions in abundance at this great local country show. A pre-race warm up always guaranteed what with the 45 degree angle of slope that the show is based on !! Highlights were the jousting, stunt bikes and birds of prey. After the Jnr races (well done to my Rowan 18/30 in U8)it was down to the sweaty business of the day. A great performance by Baldeagle to finish high up in a quality field. Well done also to new member Alan King who appears to have an uncanny resemblance to another member Alan Knox. Aside from the similar speech impediment and poor looks he seems a descent enuff sort of chap! I wonder if Babs is still on the showground looking for her car? Scores on the doors: 10. Baldeagle 36:12; 32.Boris Becker 39:10; 55.Bare it all Mark Law 41:13; 94."ey up Dad" Stu Whitehead 44:57; 99.Michael Phelps 45:07; 105.Alan King 45:28; 113. Dave I beat the 8 gold medal winner to the summit Foster 46:04; 128.Geoff Dim (in his 500th appearance in a PFR shirt....this year!)46:54; 176. My turn Russ, Anne B. 51:14; 177. Babs Where's me motor Haigh 51:18; 183.Brent Lindsay 51:35 (he must be a pornstar with a name like that); 194. Deserted by Hubbie C'worth 52:22; 204. Love Bug 53:43; 244. Nell Law 59:19 - who refused to run bare chested like husband at his request.- , 2008-09-23

belter run for me today got into a routine again scalped some good lads today in a very competetive race well done to all club members who took part.- baldeagle, 2008-09-20

A terrific time was had by a large number of romping PFR members last night with lots of prizes as booty. Stannah Hinch was an incredible 2nd after flogging me and Rick to death on the chopper ride over to the start. Sue H bagged 1st prize in the over 21 category and Stu Woodhead in the over 65 category...I think! Only in Yorkshire could you get trays of chips served up by a bloke in a dinner suit with a dickie-bow! The 2 pints of Moonshine slipped down very nicely before the eyeballs out ride home - alas Stannah can't do anything at a steady pace. Why oh why have I not done this before? - great organisation by Wakey with results up in no time at all. The sight of the organiser throwing loaves of bread to the far corners of the boozer struck an almost biblical scene! Guttered can't make the last 1 which is a relay at the end of August. Do it if you can. n o doubt someone will post the results up here when they come out.- Scab, 2008-08-01

Sun 20th Jul 2008Fan y Big Horseshoe Fell
 10.1 miles / 2200 feet of ascent. Records; 1:14:49 Stan Charles 2007 :- 1:26:54 Helen Fines 2007 www.breconfans.org.uk/FanYBigRace.htm

Weather for this one was almost as good as it gets, slightly to much wind on the edge. Lovely route taking in some stunning scenery. I added about a K to the route by not being bothered to look at my map at a road junction about 1 K from the end, turned left instead of right and ran uphill (slightly) for 5 / 600 metres before realising, what a prat. Nice race in a very nice part of the world.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-07-22

Wrong race Soreeneater, this ones Pen y Fan. Cracking weekend, both races had lots to offer and the camp site, Priory Farm, in Brecon was fantastic, and only a short (5 mins) walk to a real ale boozer. Thanks Caz and Gaz for the recommendation.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-07-22

Sat 19th Jul 2008Pen y Fan Fell
 3.5 miles / 1930 ft of ascent. AS. Experience required, Local knowledge a benefit. Navigational skills needed. Records:- Keith Anderson 30:00 1992 - P. Calder / C. Crofts 38:15 1990 / 1992 www.breconfans.org.uk/PenYFanRace.htm

Excelent short race. Last year Keith Anderson did the summit down to the finish in 7 minutes, only way I can see that is if he tripped at the top and took 7 minutes and a mile and a quarter (ish) to recover. AWESOME!!!!- Mouth Almighty, 2008-07-22

Updated the champs sheet as below. Well done to everyone. Glad you enjoyed it Scab. I'd never live it down if you'd all had a bad time. Pity I had to dash, missed the cake! http://www.fell.runner.btinternet.co.uk/pfrchamps08.htm - muddysox, 2008-07-18

Oops put the wrong date in Diary - please delete El Webmaster. 16 white clad athletes turned up for a super little blast from a quite stunning Derbys village nr Bakewell. 64 starters and fine fayre in the Cock & Pullet for afters. Pleased with my 1st 50 point haul for my new club until Geoff Dim pipes up "Mind you - no decent runners from the club turned up!" Thanks alot Geoff - I think you should find a new career - in Sports Psycology perhaps!! Can we ensure that Babs Haigh turns up at every race with homemade cake for PFR finishers please - t'was delicious. Elsewhere Dave C was doing cartwheels with his highest placing in a Champs race, KT Davis stormed home quickest in the Ladies race and even a prize picked up for Dave H as the race anchorman. What a top little event and well worth the effort in getting over there of my chauffeur- Mr Porteous. I bet road runners have just as much fun!?!- Scab, 2008-07-18

Sod fell running. After our youngest Mutt (towed rather forcefully by lead held by keen 9 year old offspring) achieved 3rd place in the Dog Agility Contest I'm devoting my spare time to this activity instead. Looking forward to seeing Teresa and Sarah as judges at next years' Crufts Best in Show!!Rosette is stuck on top of t'telly for all to see.- Scab, 2008-07-14

Very disappointed with the lack of mud Mr. Mouth Almighty! Cheers to all the people who made it such a fantastic event. Biking there and back over Strines route is NOT to be recommended. One more race and I will be able to get one of those Pound Shop nail scratched glasses.- SoreenEater, 2008-07-13

Sat 12th Jul 2008Thurlstone Chase Fell
 3pm 4m/400' from Thurlstone (GR226036)1st TiT.

Top race as ever Bob. Had to cover me ears when Julie B uttered some words you won't find in the Bible once we hit the big puddles. Not sure she likes the gloopy stuff - mind you she was only a few secs behind the 1st Lady. Frithy & I gagged a coupla gongs on the day - it's a good job we jumped ship - else this club wouldn't have much to shout about! P.s. Tongue firmly shoved in cheek.- Scab, 2008-07-14

Well done to all the runners. That was a tough run. Congratulations to Bald Eagle and Scab. I thought I would give Frithy a break tonight so I opted for a swift half in the pub half way up the first hill, then casually strolled around the woods taking note of the various points of interest. After a short spell of bird spotting I thought I better leg it down the hill to hear the band play a rendition of Frithy's 1930's favourites.- BigAl, 2008-06-19

good little tough race that was, glad to win a £10 voucher which the kids have claimed and well done to everyone.- baldeagle, 2008-06-19

Extremely Jacob's Cream Crackered after this event. Looking at last year's times I expected to finished around the 26min mark. Good guess. 1 second off. Lots of up then lots of down. So, 14 mins or so of up and 11-12 mins down. The up kept going up and up. Set off like a train and made good headway. Then I fell back a bit as Steve Storey and Julie B went flying by. 12th I think and thank god I managed to stay in front of Big Al. No prize for being the first Cubley runner home. Bad show if you ask me. Thanks to all those concerned. Must recci it just before the race next time, then I know what's coming.- SoreenEater, 2008-06-18

I hereby officially retire.- BigAl, 2008-06-16

It looks as though the reports page is not being used too much. Most people are writing reports on the message board. It was an eventful race this morning. Nice to see so many people there. It would have been nice to get a hundred out. Thanks to everyone who marked the course and/or stood giving directions. Big Al's 40th on Friday. He said that he would retire if he beat me. So, I was well up for that. He blasted off from the start, I adjusted my shoelaces and strolled up the first hill passing the time of day with the locals. The course was marked every few metres and it was impossible to get lost. As we approached the top of the hill after crossing the stream/river, I decided to put my foot on the gas pedal and see if I could catch sight of Alex. Nope, nowhere to be seen. Passing people who had stormed by before I made good progress through the fields. I now caught a glimpse of my running mate. Bit by bit (with little effort) I began to pull him back. Mucky Lane and he is just a hundred yards in frony. Ian C appears to be struggling up the hill ( sorry Ian). Then it's my turn and I'M struggling. Through a few gates which Alex makes sure are tightly shut, I gain on him and by the top stile I am just a metre or so from him. Ready for the run in and put in a sprint. DAMN! Who move the finish to there? Ah well, he'll have to retire now. Well done Alex. It is going to be harder and harder for me to be in front from now on, if at all. I'll buy you a pint.- SoreenEater, 2008-06-15

Another fantastic turnout. Results were out on the night, just after the last of the runners had gone home. Martin, results man, is moving jobs and will not be at any more races but will continue to do the results until the end of the year, by me sending him the details. I have 3 ITbased runners looking at simplifying the system for next year with a view to guaranteeing the results on the night we used to have when John Dyson was with us.:)- Mouth Almighty, 2008-06-04

Call em fell races in the Peak eh? - I think not. This is the mother of all medium category A races. Actually, 9.2m with 4200' of climbing no less. No wonder it took me 2hrs 4mins 21secs. A sheer monster hands on thigh grunt from Bethesda up to Carnedd Dafydd along the Carneddau saddle horseshoe and then up Carnedd Llewellyn. Then a screaming technical at times descent to the foot of Gryn Wigau when the hands on thigh grunting resumes. Well chuffed in finishing 13/55. Will defo do this again.- Scab, 2008-06-04

Perhaps you need to start a new trend..running goggles. If you lads up the front wear them, they will all be buying them!- BigAl, 2008-05-27

Can you put in a claim? Crowdengrit.com? What's it like up at the front?- SoreenEater, 2008-05-27

cracking race that was,the wind on top was a shocker, only other problem was driving home my left eye was niggling me,but ann said she could not see anything in it so i held out until i could not take anymore and decided to go to the hospital at 4.30 in the morning where they found a chunk of crowden horseshoe grit which they kindly removed thus giving instant relieve, got to see the eye specialist now because it is badly scratched, but all in all a fantastic face roll on next year.- baldeagle, 2008-05-27

That was a race and a half. Was it windy OR was it windy. Made little or no progress in some places, it was that bad. It's a good job it was blowing the direction it was or we might have had a few bodies over the edge near Laddow Rocks. Got to the trig point with one guy in "toe", downhill all the way from there. Thought that loads would pass me but only one did;Mark Buskwood from Totley. Glad to see the finish. A tough 80mins work. A few people tried to out sprint each other. Not a good idea. He went flying and did his legs in on the gravel. That Alex Simon kid is improving far too quickly. Must stop telling him all my training secrets. By 2009 I'll be chasing him! Myself and Barbara H managed to navigate the well marked and well marshalled course. The same cannot be said for the only other white shirted attendee - Baldeagle. Good results from our top runners is very important to the overall profile of the club. So I'm afraid that losing your way so disastrously and slipping from 2nd to finish 11th just isn't good enough Mr Baldy. Does the club have a special fund enabling members to have a visit to a local optician? At least the daughters of the lost lad were very useful as timekeepers at the finish - a job for the Trunce perhaps MouthAlmighty? Top race as ever - it really is the only proper category A short race herabouts - do it next year. Results to follow.- Scab, 2008-05-19

Juniors will start 2.5 minutes after seniors and will do the loop by the river the opposite way round, that is anti clockwise not clockwise. Marshals will be out encouraging juniors to run on the right hand side of the lane after the first farm, ready to turn right instead of dropping down to kissing gate. Seniors will be asked to run on the left side of the lane after the first farm. This should remove the frustration of the faster juniors who get stuck in the queue for the gate.- Mouth Almighty, 2008-05-07

Gut rot the week before put paid to my 4 1/2 hrs hopes on the day. The aim was to get round without being timed out and on that score managed to get through Hill Inn with 15 mins to spare. A serious left hamstring seizure after the descent on Whernside meant I couldn't even walk for 5 mins. Thanks to Kingsnail for stopping at that point before speeding off in to the distance. What a fantastic day out - loadsa spectators, very friendly runners all about, awesome goody bag. Just ducked under 5 hours and was well pleased with getting round. Brilliant evening for Truncing, albeit a tad cold standing at the finish slightly under dressed. Another record breaker, 239 senior and 31 junior eclipsing race 2 2007 of 223 senior and 29 junior. Hope everyone enjoys the rest at the gate. Martin is picking the sheets up this evening and will do his utmost to process them tonight. That was a real TOUGHIE. A stiff climb up the hill to the first stile. IS IT JUST ME being a Victor Meldrew type? I thought you were supposed to wait your turn and go over the stile, not climb over the wire fence. It does my head in. These idiots could stop others enjoying races because farmers don't want the fence wrecking. If you've got loads of energy, save it for later in the race. Sorry about the rant. Loved the race, it was tough going along the side of that fence. Don't think there was an easy way. Well done to all the Penistone runners. Not sure who was in first, it certainly wasn't me. Just a bit on the BRRRRR it's freezing cold side. Can't remember the last 5 mile road race I did and I certainly can't remember the last time I DID the Wombwell 5. Managed to thaw out a bit after the hill. My mate was going to keep up with Julie B. Some hope! I was just starting my journey around the track as Julie was coming into the finish. Well done to Shaun D, third in a PB? A storming day for all those Penistone vests. Cheers to Stuart W for pushing me on a bit; after he'd gone by me of course. Really pleased with my time and who knows, I might do another 5 miler before the year is up.- SoreenEater, 2008-02-17
